    FAQ

Q: How long does an MOT take?
An MOT test usually takes about one hour to complete. However, if your vehicle requires repairs, you may need to leave it at the centre for a longer period.

Q: What is checked during an MOT?
The MOT assesses safety, environmental, and legal standards. This includes checks on lights and electrics, suspension and steering, braking system, tyres and wheels, seat belts, vehicle structure, emissions, and the driver’s field of vision.

Q: How much does an MOT cost?
The advertised MOT price is £50, which is below the maximum fee set by the DVSA.

Q: What happens if my car fails its MOT?
If your vehicle does not pass the MOT, the identified faults must be repaired before it can be legally driven on public roads. You can arrange the necessary repairs at your chosen centre and book a retest.

Q: Is there a fee for an MOT retest?
If you return within 10 working days for a partial retest after repairs, the charge may be reduced or sometimes free, depending on the circumstances. After 10 days, a full MOT fee is usually required.

Q: What should I bring to my MOT appointment?
You should have your vehicle registration details (V5C) and previous MOT certificate if available. Also bring the fuel cap key and locking wheel nut key if applicable. Insurance and tax status are verified electronically.

Q: What parts of the vehicle are tested in an MOT?
The test covers areas such as body condition, exhaust emissions, fuel system, seat belts, doors, mirrors, brakes, lights, steering, suspension, tyres, registration plates, horn, windscreen, and other essential components.

Q: What does MOT stand for?
MOT originally meant Ministry of Transport, introduced in 1960 as a vehicle safety inspection.

Q: Can I book my MOT before it expires?
You may book your MOT up to one month (minus one day) before the current certificate expires without changing the renewal date. Booking earlier than this may alter the next expiry date.

Q: Do I need to remove items from my car for the MOT?
It is not necessary to empty your boot for the test, and spare tyres are not inspected. However, ensure that wheel lock keys and fuel cap keys are available

Q: Will my digital service history be updated after an MOT and service?
Digital Service Records are generally not updated as part of an MOT and service appointment.

Q: Can I access my MOT certificate online?
Once your vehicle passes, you can download or view your MOT certificate through the official government website.

Q: Will I receive an MOT reminder?
The DVLA does not always send automatic reminders, so registering for a reminder service is advisable.

Q: Will I get a reminder for my first MOT?
Owners of vehicles approaching their first MOT are not guaranteed a government reminder, so signing up for notifications can be helpful.
