Q. What is a wet belt and why is it important?
A wet belt is a timing belt that runs inside the engine and is kept lubricated by engine oil. It keeps the camshaft and crankshaft in sync so the engine runs properly. Because it works in oil, it depends heavily on correct servicing and clean oil, otherwise it can wear early and cause major engine issues.
Q. How often should I replace my wet belt?
There isn’t one fixed interval for every car — it depends on the make, model, engine, and manufacturer schedule. Many vehicles fall around 60,000–100,000 miles (or a certain number of years). At Sai Mot, we’ll check your vehicle details and advise the right time based on your mileage, service history, and condition.
Q. What are the warning signs of a failing wet belt?
Some common signs include rattling/ticking noises, rough running, loss of power, starting issues, or warning lights. But with wet belts, wear isn’t always obvious, so if you’re close to the due interval or unsure of the history, it’s best to book an inspection.
Q. What happens if I don’t replace my wet belt on time?
If the wet belt breaks down or fails, the engine timing can slip and cause serious internal damage (valves, pistons, etc.). Wet belt debris can also affect the oil system. This can lead to expensive repairs — and in some cases, an engine replacement — so replacing on time is the safest option.
